Teaching Aids: 1. a puter 2. the blackboard Teaching Procedures: FStep Ⅰ. Greetings Greet the whole class as usual. FStep Ⅱ.Revision Check the homework with the students. Step Ⅲ Reading T: In this class, we’ll read a story. Do you like a story? Ss: Yes, we do. T: Many of you read a lot of books, most of which are story books. What should we pay attention to when we read a story? Please turn to Page 84 and read the tips please. (After the students read the tips.) T: Now please turn to Page 83. Read the story and then I’ll ask you some questions. (Teacher gives the students enough time to read the story. After the students read it, teacher begins to ask them some questions.) T: What are the main characters in the story? S1: They are Tom and Pete. T: Where were Tom and Pete in the story? S2: They were in a church. The church had many secret rooms. They were now before a statue. The statue stood in front of the door to a secret room. They wanted to go into the room. T: What did they hear when they were in front of the statue? S3: They heard a noise. It sounded like a woman crying. T: What did they want to do? S4: They wanted to find out what was inside the room. T: When did the story happen? S6: I don’t know. I didn’t find the time when they were in the church. Perhaps the story didn’t tell us. T: All of your answers are very good. From the passage we know that Harry and his friends tried some passwords and finally they succeeded in finding a hole below the picture. Then they went through the hole in the wall and….Now you are asked to write your own ending to the story. You can use your imagination as much as possible. (After a while, teacher asks some students to read their endings of the story.) S7: …went into the secret room. A box was on the ground. Tom wanted very much to find out what was in the box. As soon as Tom opened it, the box exploded. S8:…went into the room. There was nothing in the room but a hole. The hole was in the wall. Tom and Pete went into it on their knees. The hole was about 500 metres long. They used a flash light to give the light. At last they came into another room. There were a lot of treasures in it. At then how happy they were! FStep Ⅳ.Study for Language Points T: While you were reading the passage, you must have e across some words, expressions and sentence patterns that you don’t quite understand. Please find them out and underline them. Then I’ll explain them to you. (Teacher asks some students to find out the language points and write them on the blackboard.) (Bb: seem, sound like, It looks/is as if…,feel,…that not all of them were safe; If only…,whatever, be about to do sth. when…,turn around, get through, work) T: Now I’ll explain the difficult points to you. As for some expressions, I’ll ask you to make up sentences yourselves. Look at the screen, please. 1. The maths problem seems difficult. The boy seems to be eating something delicious. 2. It looks as if it’s going to snow.[ 3. Silk feels soft.( link v.) The doctor felt the pulse of the woman to see if she was ill.(vt.) 4. …and not all of them were safe. =and some of them were safe. 5. If only you had worked with greater care! 6. Whatever (=No matter what)he does, he must do it well. You can buy whatever(≠no matter what)you like in the supermarket. 7. I was about to leave the office when the telephone rang. 8. This kind of medicine doesn’t work. T: Next I’ll ask some students to make sentences using the expressions on the blackboard. The first one is “sound like”.Who’d like to try? S9: The music sounds like the singing of birds. T: The next two expressions are “turn around” and “get through”.Any volunteers? FStep Ⅴ.Writing T: In the first period we’ve read some posters about films and an art festival. We often use posters to tell people about a film, a lecture, a football game and so on. S12: What contents should a poster include? T: Generally speaking, a poster includes the following: What is it? Who is in charge of it? When and where does it take place? How does it take place? (Bb: what, who, where, when, how…) S13: What is the usual form of a poster? What sentences can be used to make a poster? T: I’ll give you an example. Look at the poster on the screen, please. Don’t forget to write the name of the unit and the time of writing the poster. You should also pay attention to their positions.
